An imperial villa in place of a dark turreted castle; Puglia from Gargano to Salento instead of the Scottish moors; minions and leaders of the United Sacred Crown in place of generals, kings and aspirants to the throne. But the thirst for power, the murders, the traps, the blood to flow and then wash incessantly from the hands remain the same. In our troubled years, the Scottish tragedy 'Macbeth', written by Shakespeare in the early 1600s, returns to make its shadows and prophecies shine again (as in Joel Coen's film). Giulio Base (also author of the screenplay) reworks it in a contemporary and viscerally Italian key, with an overflowing and sanguine protagonist and a carnal and fatal Lady Macbeth.
