2012. In the Real Hospital de Santiago de Cuenca, a disabled old man spends his days obsessed with the Orden of Santiago and the knights that one day protected Spain. During a school tour in that place, one of the girls meets by chance the old man, helping him to arrive to his room. As gratitude, the old man tells her the story about the Orden: in late 12th century, Spain is pure chaos. Divided in different kingdoms (León, Castilla, Aragón, Navarra,...) faced each other between alliances and conspiracies, all them have one common enemy, the decaying Muslim caliphate that attempts to recover the country. It's Reconquista age. When the Muslim army attacks Cáceres in 1170, a group of 13 knights named Fratres joint to fund Orden de Santiago because their devotion to Jesus' apostle (St. James). Despite their defeat and the loss of the city, their courage fuels other men to join to the order. Getting the support of the Vatican and moving to Kingdom of Castilla, Orden of Santiago turns in the armed wing of Christianity and its best defense along the centuries, turning also in a symbol of social status for some of the most important people in Spain history. But according to time passes and the story comes to end, the old man will discover that his little listener is more associated with the Orden than he could imagine.
