Volker is a parcel deliverer, the single father of his 16-year-old son Benny, and football coach for a youth team. He is clearly one of the socially-underprivileged, but that never spoils his good mood. The long workdays, the miserable pay, and his son's puberty increasingly push Volker to his limits: Benny sets other priorities, his school-leaving certificate is in jeopardy, Volker threatens to lose his driver's license, and the money is often not enough for social participation--sometimes hardly for the bare minimum. When Benny considers returning to his alcoholic mother, Volker gives up something that those around him but especially he himself, could always rely on: his integrity. He takes advantage of the opportunity to get money quickly with an illegal second job. But the supposed solution to his acute problems only pulls Volker deeper into the vortex: he is faced with the shards of his existence. With help from his good friend Lena, Volker realizes how he can find support in life again: he must return to his own path, which he'd lost sight of in the turbulence of the last few months.
