Two Minutes on High (2020)

"Two Minutes on High" traverses the four phases of the sexual response cycle: desire, arousal, climax, and resolution. Through the desire and arousal phases the film takes a more "traditional", albeit commercialized, approach to sexuality that comments on mainstream sexual programming which is largely heteronormative and gender-binary. This commercialization of desire and arousal is porn-normative and cinematically supported. These are the roles and behaviors that are marketed to us within western culture and are heavily reinforced within the two main mediums from which we consume and observe sex: pornography and cinema. "Two Minutes on High" becomes more analytical within the climax and resolution phases, exploring the ways in which power dynamics and gender roles impact our sexuality and sexual practices via the use of imagery and sounds that go against the grain of normative sexuality and "traditional" gender roles. The film ultimately asks the viewer to reconsider the impact that sexual programming makes regarding our attitudes and behaviors towards sex in both abstraction and application.
