Illuminations: Short Films of Discovery (2018)

A Benedictine nun, Sister Roberta (played by Rachel Black Spaulding) attempts to protect her adopted daughter, Asana (played by Fikile M Kani) from her dangerous past. Asana, a college student, wants to spend a semester investigating her roots in Ghana. Now Sister Roberta must warn and come clean with Asana, by telling Asana the truth about who her mother and grandmother really were, how they were forced to live in a widow colony - a common practice in parts of Africa - and how they were eventually brutally killed by trying to escape. Sister Roberta had hidden this information from Asana before.
