As an Ultra trail runner, Mike Stevens is one of the elite few that can easily navigate 50 miles over some of the most treacherous terrain God ever cut out of the Pacific Northwest. He lives to run... at least he did. That seems like a long time ago now. Before his parents died. Before his failing business saddled him with debt. Before he had to work for Thomas Lewis to make ends meet so he could take care of his younger brother, Tyler. Running is mostly an afterthought now. Working for Thomas takes up most of his time. Thomas operates a large drug trafficking syndicate along the Canadian border. A recent series of organizational failures has closed several of his delivery routes and Thomas is getting pressured by his associates to find a quick solution to meet demand. It doesn't help that Henry Cassin, a veteran investigator for the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and local legend, is also following leads pointing to Thomas' door. Thomas leans on Mike for ideas and Mike suggests that he, himself, run backpacks of smaller, more profitable, drugs across the porous Canadian border. It solves their immediate product problem and will keep the Feds off them - for now. But things are about to change.
