Present time, San Diego, California, a Belfast IRA retaliatory soldier, Declan O'Neill is held captive, leading to a series of interviews, revealing flashbacks to Ireland's historically momentous status change in 1994. Declan's intangible account, expressed from the eyes of a terrorist, explores the relationships between Declan and his father; his colleagues; his enemies. Declan's world in the IRA is torn between the cause, and the extremists attracted to this type of life. Declan's father, Turlough, is more than ready to exchange a life of IRA, for simple peace of mind. Turlough watches Declan engage with some of the harshest and most violent circles in IRA history.
