The Indian society today is still based on the caste system. Castes divide people according to the principle of purity. Outside the caste system there are the Dalit, the ???Untouchables???. They are roughly 160 million Indian people who are still submitted to social discrimination and violence every day. In Tamil Nadu, following Gandhi???s ideas and non-violent principles, Krishnammal, with her husband Jagannathan and the LAFTI movement, struggle daily to obtain allotments to the ???landless??? and for the acknowledgement of rights for the lowest castes.
