Prison's Prayer (2016)

The film prison's prayer speaks about people, faith and repentance. My fascination, and the reason I am making such a film, is with the fact that people in such a closed environment, in a system limited by strict rules, did something that they would probably never have received the opportunity to do if they were free. They renovated and rebuilt the prison church, completely on their own, and they remained devoted to this project for years, until they had finished it. The significance of this film is also demonstrated in the fact that there is no recorded instance of a similar case anywhere else in the world. It is as yet unknown for inmates anywhere else to have built a church and decorated it with frescoes they painted themselves. But these Serbian prisoners did so with dedication from 2007, when a cross was set on the church, until 2014, when all works were officially completed.The reaction of the Patriarch is also interesting and we managed to capture it on film; that moment of pleasant surprise when he sees before him a new, beautiful church.- On their faces can be seen a burden that somehow disappears when they enter the church. We can see that relief, and that was what they needed, that longing for some redemption.
