After the bombing of the city centre of Rotterdam (the Netherlands) in may 1940, architects and artists start searching for a new unity of art and architecture. The period after the war, the years of parsimony, housing shortages, lack of resources and materials, was the heyday a new collaboration between artists and architects. In the 60s they became disappointed and the quest for unity was like to forget. In the contemporary city the last remains of this period, the buildings and the art, the men and women are disappearing unnoticed. The movie Holes in the wall tells the story of these places and people who were looking for a better world and reflects on the question why our relationship with our recent past is so difficult.
