In "Hypnosis For Theatre" a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, Strike, pursued a futile course of psychotherapy with the eccentric Dr. Zarin. Then, in "Water Over Wine" Strike risked losing the love of his life, Patience, by leaving the antidepressants at home in favor of a steady stream of flavorful libations at his favorite downtown bar. In "Tachycardia" Strike is back, but this time he's dealing with full-blown panic attacks. "Tachycardia" is a musical satire that follows its hero on a bewildering ride through the medical establishment, in search of a biological answer to his problems. He's willing to subject himself to an endless battery of invasive tests, which of course reveal nothing. Anyone familiar with Tony Soprano's never-ending struggles with panic attacks knows that the real enemy is inside one's head.
