In London's back street petty crime milieu, Macheath, known as Mackie The Knife, is the head of a band of robbers and also good friends with Police Chief Brown. However, Macheath gets into a conflict with Peachum, who has a tightly organized London's beggars and does not like to see his daughter Polly marry the crook Macheath.
