In a mysterious facility without windows to the outside world, nine indoctrinated prisoners are put to a test of life or death after being charged with heresy. Paralyzed in fear of the consequences of failure, the group's humanity is challenged by rage, betrayal, violence, and self-doubt. When prisoner Number Nine realizes the foreign concept of freedom, it changes his perception of the world he has always known. The clock is ticking until they're brought before the voice of authority in a long, dark punishment hall known as The Corridor for the very first time in their lives. Based on Plato's allegory of The Cave and a motivational speech from Les Brown, this short story highlights the dangers of our comfort zones and how we desperately avoid our fears of change.
