"Kam" is a personal journey for creator Kwamé Berry, the older brother of rap artist Kam Korleone, also known as Sydney Berry. In May of 2016, Sydney was murdered senselessly in an act of gun violence in Columbus, Ohio. One year later, this film unfolded and commenced to manifest itself as a hybrid of spoken word poetry, musical, and documentary. Structured in eight sequences, "Kam" is grounded in archival footage and home video, immersing the viewer in Sydney's energy and raw honesty; as well as personal anecdotes from family and loved ones. Kwamé guarantees and performs poetry sequences centered around love, grief, anger, and healing. Rarely spoken family history is explored and a clear understanding of Sydney's life, children, and aspirations are given room to exist in this hypnotic viewing. "Kam" interpolates the 1990's, New York, the West Indies, the reality of depression and ultimately, love's strength.
