This film focuses on a women's "war effort" (The Crusaders) behind the barbed wire of the Japanese American Internment led by 20-year old budding human rights activist and future Nobel Prize Nominee, Yuri Kochiyama. Now octogenarians, Yuri and three other former "Crusaders" recount their participation in the World War II women's correspondence campaign known as "The Crusaders." Their goal was to boost the morale of Japanese American soldiers with cheerful, often humorous letters. Scenes from the plays written about The Crusaders by Marlan Warren ("Bits of Paradise" and "Bits of Paradise: Kochiyama's Crusaders) are interwoven with the actual women recalling their memories. -- By Marlan Warren, Writer/Producer/Director of "What did you do in the War, Mama?: Kochiyama's Crusaders"
