As a divorce judge, Helga Winkler, who is also divorced, is well acquainted with human abysses. Widowed registrar Robert Zimmermann, on the other hand, believes in marital bliss with unshakable optimism. He wants to prove to Helga Winkler that the prospects of saving broken marriages are not as hopeless as they often seem. His intention is to restore the joy of his profession and his belief in the good in people to his somewhat embittered colleague, who is also close to the gentleman's heart. Of course, this is only possible if he carries out his peacemaking missions - already delicate endeavors that require a great deal of diplomacy - in such a discreet manner that divorce judge Winkler can believe that the change in opinion of her clientele is due to his own actions.
