Barry Lyndon (1975)

Redmond Barry, an ambitious Irishman, rises from humble beginnings to pursue a life of wealth and nobility in 18th-century Europe. After a duel with a British officer and a stint in the British Army, he deserts and joins the Prussian forces, eventually becoming a spy and gambler. Barry cons his way into a marriage with the wealthy Lady Lyndon, taking her name and fortune. However, his lavish lifestyle and poor decisions lead to ruin.
