The lower-middle-class Munich postal inspector Anton Sittinger only reads philosophical books like Nietzsche and Schopenhauer and considers himself apolitical. The good civil servant and his wife Malwine stay out of all the political turmoil. They even flee to the countryside before the fighting of the revolution, but here too, the ideology of the National Socialists becomes widespread during the days of the Weimar Republic.
