Financially hard-pressed, the honest and hard-working owner of a decrepit tannery, Yorgos Papiros, fights tooth and nail to keep afloat. Against the backdrop of trying times, Yorgos--almost stubbornly--nurtures his noble dream of modernising the family business by getting a loan from the National Bank to update his antiquated machinery; however, he keeps having the door slammed in his face when he asks for help. Now, the well-to-do migrant, Apostolis, has set his sights on marrying Yorgos' high-school daughter and aspiring actress, Valentini. Could he be the solution to the family's problems?
