Unpredictable Nature of the River (1996)

France, 1786. Jean-François de La Plaine is banished for killing a friend of the king in a duel. Appointed governor of a tiny African trading post, he discovers slavery and racism but also the richness brought by difference thanks to the affection offered by Amélie, his black adopted daughter.
