The Frighteners (1996)

A ghost has sex with a mummy in a coffin in a museum. Mostly offscreen(we see a little ghostly movement) commenting that he "...likes it when they don't move."

In the bedroom, husband solicits his wife for sex; they are interrupted.

Two people kiss and have fun, The man goes on top of a woman and kisses.

A man says he was his family's sex slave for six months

A ghost gets shot in the side of his face (blood squirts off his ear, no harm)

A woman goes to check on a lady, she finds her dead (blood shown).

There is a flashback of a mass murder in a hospital where a woman and a man kill people and carve numbers on their foreheads.

A woman freezes the man in a controlled fashion where she should be able to bring him back from the dead of hypothermia.)

A ghost is split in half.

A woman cuts her hand.

"Death" tears off a man's face and his "remains" are then tossed onto a woman car.

At a museum, a ghost disguised as the grim reaper cuts another ghost in half with his Scythe.

A ghost sucks the soul out of a woman, we see her floating to heaven.

A woman chases another woman with a knife and swings it at her, she then grabs a shotgun and shoots at another.

A man shoots a ghost with machine guns, his remains splat on a grave.

A man is strangled to death.

In a cemetery, old skeletons are seen leaning out of coffins.

A man has marks all over his torso that represents all the missions he had with the FBI and the pain and agony he had to face in those missions.

A ghost impales another ghost with a scythe, his ghost form deflates.

At a public bathroom, a ghost appears out of a mirror and grabs the soul out of a man.

There are scenes where ghosts are flattened and squished by cars.

A man sticks his hand through a ghost's chest to grab bug spray and sprays his face leaving a gory mess (We see his eyeballs dangling on the sides).

Some ghosts in the graveyard had numbers carved on their forehead.

"Death" comes in to someone's house and we see him seek behind the wall and he kills a man (offscreen).

A man grabs a shotgun and shoots a nurse in the stomach (blood shown).

A young woman shoots a patient in a hospital bed.

A man has his head blown off by a shotgun (his head explodes in a bloody mess).

A couple of ghosts are seen rotting (body parts falling off, etc.).

Scenes where ghosts get hit or ran over by cars and trucks, etc.

A man is shot in the arm with a machine gun.

"Shit" (17), "goddamn" (10), "damn" (16), "ass" (15), "asshole" (2), "bastard" (5), "hell" (12), "bitch" (4), "son of a bitch" (3), "Jesus Christ" (1), "For Christ's sakes" (3), "Holy Jesus" (1), "Jesus" (2).

Phrases: "Stupid moron," "Bastard," "Bitch," "Idiot," "Pissed off," "Scumbag," "You little maggot," and "Loser."

A ghsot wants to smoke cigars

Some characters are seen drinking wine in a restaurant.

A couple of characters smoke.

Some ghost have there bodies flattened and emptied, and there faces are replaced with large holes. No blood or gore is shown.

Many of Bannister's ghost friends are seen, but they don't behave in any frightening ways. Their various stages of decomposition.

The movie is a light R rating however the head blown off scene was the reason it was an R rating so as some disturbing sequences of close knife action. The film was supposedly a PG-13 but Peter Jackson took advantage of the rating when he knew it was going to be rated R leaving the headshot scene.

There is a lengthy sequence where a man experiences flashbacks regarding people getting shot with shotguns in a hospital by the two villains, there is some blood and it could disturb some viewers. Blood is seen and numbers carved on their forehead could scare some

There is some intense chase scenes in this movie.

The chase scene in the abandoned hospital is VERY scary and intense.

There are frightening scenes where people are murdered and have their soul sucked out oft heir bodies by a figure.

There is a scene where a woman finds an old lady dead in a bed splattered with blood.

There is an intense chase scene and fight scene at a graveyard involving two ghosts and a man and woman.

A man has flashbacks of his wife's murder.

There is a scene where a ghost pursues a man and woman in a car, the car flips over and crashes and the ghost sucks the soul out of the woman.

There is a scene where a killer ghost sneaks behind a woman in a jail cell and just when the ghost is about to kill her, he fights it.

There are other scary moments, but nothing where things jump out to scare characters or us.

There is a jump scene when an FBI agent jumps out and grabs a lady in the climatic hospital scene.

The killer in this movie is sick and twisted and finds pleasure in killing his victims.

The Frighteners is a horror/comedy film; as such, there are quite few intense scenes. On the other hand, some of the violence is played for laughs, and shouldn't be disturbing.

Many "jump out of your seat" or "GOTCHA!" moments.

A decaying body is shown in it's coffin covered in maggots.
