The Golem: How He Came Into the World (1920)

In 16th century Prague, a revered leader and astrologer foresees danger looming over his people and, to protect them, creates a powerful clay golem brought to life by a demonic spirit. But although the golem becomes a formidable guardian, it is always on the borderline between salvation and menace. A pioneer of expressionism and directed by Paul Wegener, this film also stands as one of the first masterpieces of horror and monster movies.
