On the High Card (1921)

Polly Updike learns of her father's death on the day of her arrival in Rim Rock, where Ben Stiles, Pecos Bill, and Conchita run a saloon and the law is represented by Harry Holt and Hank Saunders. Deciding that Polly must be married for protection, Harry and Hank arrange for the men in the saloon to draw lots. Harry wins, and Polly indignantly refuses to marry him; but Harry continues to protect her though Pecos Bill tells Polly that Harry killed her father. Harry and Hank rescue Polly from Mexicans and again, later, from Pecos Bill. Learning that Bill is actually the murderer, Polly rewards Harry's exploits with her hand in marriage.
