Roberto Ramírez (Carlos Gardel) is a gambler and occasional singer in Buenos Aires suburbs. One day he meets Alina (Imperio Argentina), a music teacher and decides to change for good. She wants him to become a professional singer but to leave his past life will not be so easy.
