Les Misérables (1934)

In 19th century France, ex-convict Jean Valjean tries to rebuild his life after serving 19 years for stealing bread. He is relentlessly pursued by the unyielding Inspector Javert. Along the way, Valjean becomes a surrogate father to Cosette, the daughter of Fantine, a woman driven to desperate measures to support her child. Their lives intersect with a group of idealistic revolutionaries, including Marius, who falls in love with Cosette amid the turbulent social upheaval.
