The Lovers of Manon Lescout (1954)

In the reign of King Louis XV handsome student Des Grieux meets his charming cousin Manon just when she goes to the convent of Amiens to take the veil. It's love at first sight and the lovers decided to leave for Paris. After some delightful months, money runs short. Des Grieux is kidnapped by his father, who holds him prisoner. Left on her own, Manon thinks she's been deserted. Attracted by luxury, she becomes the Marquis of Boysson's mistress. Des Grieux escapes and Manon quits her degenerate ways to follow him. But once again, money runs out. Des Grieux cheats at gambling and is arrested.
