Surprise! The Englishman Tommy follows his holiday romance Jessie to Berlin in the summer of 1996. She is anything but happy to see him as she has enough problems of her own. Tommy decides to stay and finds work jobbing with a furniture removals company while back home England host the Euro 96 tournament. Tommy works through the week and sets his hopes on England beating Germany and winning over Jessie. But nothing works out to plan; as a removals man Tommy earns a few tips and a whole host of insights into German homes and mentalities but causes his colleagues no end of trouble too. Things go from bad to worse when Jessie insist there is no romance, only a drunken time. Then there is the luck of the Germans; Gareth Southgate has his penalty saved by Köpke and Andreas Möller scores his leaving Tommy is devastated. Yet he doesn't give up. By the end of the week he has a fixed job in the removals company and as Oliver Bierhoff shoots the Golden Goal, Tommy has Jessie in his arms again.
