Growing Down in Brooklyn (2000)

It's 1976. The Vietnam War is an unpleasant memory and disco fever is at its peak. In this semi-autobiographical film, four twenty-something friends from Midwood, Brooklyn are forced to confront their lives and all they hold dear when a friend is brutally murdered by the Mafia. Their fall from innocence into tragic criminality breaks through the hardened cliché of the "mobster movie", humanizing the moral conflict of youth navigating survival in a closed community bound by the treacherous waters of unwritten rules defying ethical codes and the law of the land.
