Sherlock Holmes' Desire (1971)

None | Czechoslovakia | Czech | 97 min
Directed by: Stepán Skalský
4.9

Sherlock Holmes likes to play violin and expects a great career in music. He gets a place in a spa orchestra, but he is again and again distracted by criminal cases. Therefore he is the only one who does not see that his violin has no future. He solves the criminal mysteries in passing but the final test shows that the famous detective is tone-deaf. The movie is full of top Czech actors. However the expectations of the audience were not met. The tempo of the story is slow, the criminal mysteries are on the kindergarten level and long pauses separating the jokes kill the atmosphere. If you go through the movie with a magnifying glass you will find the mastery of the engaged stars (Lukavsky, Voska, Herz, Drahokoupilova) but in the whole it is too clear that the movie is only a simple anecdote prolonged to 97 minutes.
