In a small southern town in the 1960s, the war criminal Berg, the former chief of the Sonderkommando that operated here during the war, is on trial. Berg himself is not at the trial, he is being tried in absentia. One of the main witnesses, a former resident of this city and military doctor Nina Semyonova, who lost her sight, also reminds the audience of Yuriy Zolotitsky, who came here at the very beginning of the war and voluntarily offered his police services to the Germans. Zolotitsky committed monstrous crimes, sparing neither the elderly, nor women, nor children.
