El sereno de Bogotá (1945)

Sentimental drama that takes place in the middle of the nineteenth century in Bogotá. An old man, in charge of taking care of the streets and keeping the lanterns lit that illuminated the nights of the city, a job known as "Sereno", finds himself at the beginning of a day with an insomniac passer-by. He decides to tell her about his life, an accumulation of tragedies that includes a poor childhood, loss of parents, estrangement from his beloved, marriage and loss of wife and son. At last dawn breaks and the pathetic rapporteur dies in turn in the arms of the patient gentleman.
