A man's head is bashed into a pillar until his skull is crushed. Then his lover is slashed to death. His guards are then shown lying dead in pools of blood nearby.
The sheriff chases after several men on horseback and manages to push several off before he himself is thrown off of his horse.
The sheriff is attacked in the library and is beaten down by an attacker until the library is set on fire.
The sheriff engages in a sword fight until a masked man arrives and the two duel. The masked man sends the sheriff to the groud and cuts his chin with his sword, letting him off with a warning.
The film centers around the Inquisition, and there are many instance of "heretics" being beaten and killed in the marketplace.
The ending is very bloody, with many people getting killed. A man is strangled with chains before being stabbed in the back of the neck with a red hot poker. Another man gets his face forced into a fountain until he drowns. A man is beaten to death on the steps of the cathedral with clubs. Another man gets a wooden spike pounded into his throat. Blood spurts from his mouth.
A woman is tortured by the corrupt friars by being racked and then burned with a red hot brand. She eventually dies after being tortured too much. The sound of breaking bones is heard.
