I Am... (1983)

Early 1980s Athens, Greece. Struggling to eke out an existence, third-generation prostitute Rita takes great pains to keep her double identity secret from her unsuspecting high school student daughter. Having endured pain, humiliation, and persecution for too long--from both the police and Takis, her violent ex-boyfriend pimp--Rita now wants out, dreaming of living an ordinary but honest life away from the peril-laden underworld of prostitution. However, once a pariah, always a pariah, and even though she knows she is fighting a losing battle, Rita gives her all to create a better future for her daughter, refusing to accept defeat. But sinister forces stand in the way of change, and there's nowhere to go but down. Will Rita ever escape from the clutches of Takis?
