The Man Who Came from Elsewhere (2004)

In the late 19th century, Dr Pierre Adelaide, a doctor from the French West Indies, arrives in a Charente village to take over from a colleague. Very soon, he is the victim not of racism but of simple xenophobia, and his consulting room remains desperately empty - One day, however, he saves the life of the mayor's daughter. While this wins him the villagers' trust, it is not enough convert everyone to a spirit of tolerance.
