Nadia, an 18-year-old French girl from Moroccan origin, is now of age to get married. Despite her reluctance to marriage during the family summer vacation in Morocco, she finally chooses Samir, in his thirties, a peasant with no education, who has already fallen in love with her. She can feel the unconditional love this simple and kind man has for her, but also the hold she has over him. Very soon, Nadia rejects this unbearable life in her husband's family she has chosen in the grip of anger. Samir, very much in love and prepared to any sacrifice, agrees to leave his land and follows her in France to save his marriage. However, the gap between them keeps increasing : Samir has difficulties to integrate in this new modern society when Nadia on the contrary is becoming more emancipated in her social and professional life. Her choice also leads to great tensions in her family caught between the weight of traditions and the western ways. As Nadia seems to liberate herself and more than ever likely to slip away from him completely, Samir holds on with infinite patience and love.
