March, 1893. Providence's Roger Williams Park is about to lose its first elephant. Baby Roger, as he is known, is being repossessed by his owner. The children of the city are heartbroken. But salvation is at hand. A letter to the editor of the Providence Journal suggests that the tots raise the money themselves to keep their pachyderm friend in town. The whole city goes wild as they try to save their sweetheart. The Ballad of Baby Roger tells the story of this dramatic race to save Roger and what happened afterward.
