This movie is based on the book and CDs of the same name, about Jill Bolte Taylor, a 37 -year-old Boston brain scientist who had a rare Arterial-Veinous Malfunction (AVM) stroke on the left side of her brain in 1996. She became an infant in a woman's body as a result. Yet she miraculously fully recovered after brain surgery over eight years with the help of her mother. In the book, she details how she orchestrated her own rescue, her surgery, her recovery, and how stroke patients should be treated (ex: avoid talk radio). But especially, it details the bizarre experiences of living out of the right side of her brain, which she described in the book as "nirvana". In 2008, she gave a TED talk describing what happened, including showing an actual human brain to the audience.
