Three bio-diesel buses transporting more than 200 volunteers, otherwise known as the "Dirty Hands Caravan", departed the grounds of the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, CA and headed East bound for New Orleans, LA. The project was the brainchild of actor Sean Penn who appeared on the festival's main stage inviting the audience to spontaneously join the caravan on a ten day camping trip volunteering around America. Minutes after his speech, dozens of concert-goers signed up for the adventure. The buses traveled 1,800 miles stopping in numerous cities over the next week until they reached New Orleans. The Caravan, which was entirely conceived and organized in only ten days time, was the coming together of many individuals, each encouraged to get off the Internet and "get involved" in any way they felt compelled. After the trip was over, not all the volunteers made it back home to California. Lives were inspired to begin anew in a cause that was far greater than themselves.
