Mike, an arrogant, confident young lad returns home by bus. He is from a lower social economic background which becomes evident as he arrives home to a block of council flats on the East side of London. As a VO we hear Mike reciting a poem. Do ya wanna dance? Do ya wanna dance with me? Mike can't keep a job but has managed to maintain a steady performance with the girls he meets each night out clubbing and pubbing. Mike arrives home to be berated by his mother. Her hand shakes constantly and she is in deep conversation with a friend at the table - but there is no-one there. Years of substance abuse have taken its toll. The mother humiliates Mike to her invisible friend while displaying sympathy and affection to Mike at the same time. Mike tries to ignore her but the built up frustration gets the better of him and he storms off down the pub. While walking the streets heading to the pub we hear the remainder of Mike's poem. Full of bravado, he arrogantly brags about himself and a girl he is about to conquer.
