A cab carrying a pregnant woman and her husband cuts through the abandoned, rain-lashed streets of Mumbai. As it turns it comes to a screeching halt. A young boy, not more than five years old, is stuck between the smashed pavement and the mangled bonnet of a car. He is bleeding to death. Raj gets out to help the boy but the cries of Vatsala, his wife, force him back into the cab. Vatsala reaches the hospital and gives birth to a stillborn baby. Unable to conceive again, Vatsala believes they are being punished for abandoning the boy on the road. She meets Dhruv a seven year old kid from the neighborhood and develops a strong maternal bond with him. Only when she conceives again, and when Dhruv's bout of sibling rivalry takes a serious turn, does she realize that he could be a ghost of her past.
