Sculptor Dawid Louw is commissioned to create a statue in honour of the women and children who died in a British concentration camp during the Anglo-Boer War. He uses the young, unmarried mother Jeannie Moolman as his model, which enrages the unforgiving community leaders of Hoffmansdal who had ostracized her. Despite threats and intimidation by some of the most influential townspeople, Louw refuses to back down.
