8 Million Gods and a Beast (2011)

A prisoner returns to his cave after discovering external-ism and its fathomless consequences. A dandy lost in a desert limbo is in constant pursuit of a faceless woman. A hermit sacrifices his doll. Using a dream within a dream within a dream structure, this film touches upon the Homunculus dilemma in philosophy of mind: if it's true that a mind or spirit or Homunculus (little person) controls and experiences all the sense data and representations of the body, then it must, in itself, contain another spirit or Humunculus experiencing those representations, which in turn contain another Homunulus...and so on. At the same time, the film attempts to project, in images and actions, an abstract and new idea in philosophy of mind: external-ism.
