They both were adventurers and naturalists: the Swiss immigrants Ruth and Yule Kilcher and the Swiss philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778). In his spirit the couple and parents of eight children turned its dream of a simple life in harmony with nature 1941 into reality. 2012 Monika Scharer visited the today about sixty years old Kilcher children on their parental homestead in Homer. On the southern coast of Alaska they showed and told her - in English and Swiss German - how their growing up in the wilderness 'à la Rousseau' has influenced their biographies.
