Alex - Incomplete Faith (2013)

Just before 5AM, video journalist Nik meets Alex, a homeless person, at the railway mission in Berlin to join him for a short journey through the night. After eight years of living on the street, Alex has changed. He is no longer the man he used to be, spending each day confused and lost, hardly able to remember anything. His wandering nights have left him without sleep for three days. Alex is only one of approximately 16,000 people in Berlin who are homeless. This documentary will display the heart of what homeless people value most: the feeling of being known. Documentary filmmaker and cameraman, Nikolas Müller, acts with compassion as he quietly observes and interacts with Alex. He refrains from asking the typical questions of a journalist and instead tries only to establish trust. Müller invites the audience to experience life through the lens of a homeless person, even if only for a short time. Nik and Alex spend only two hours at the railway station together, but as Alex's faith in humanity is slowly restored, a subtle and profound film is produced. Nikolas Müller sets the stage to give Alex something he has lost: a voice.
