The simple life in the village of Mendrisio goes on as usual: Palmira keeps an eye on everything in town; her husband Eugenio doesn't make much of an effort except for drinking an extra glass of wine; her sister Miglietta, a sprightly ninety-year old, who is characterized by a "slight" deafness, pursues her dream of reading the Bible in church. Something that she is denied by Don Mirko, the parish priest of Venetian origin, who arrived in town a couple of years earlier but who despite the fact of not having lost his accent, has become well-integrated in the community. He is assisted by Ersilia, his housekeeper, who adores gossiping and watching TV and thrillers. This nice routine is interrupted when the Beck Circus comes to town and its hilarious Director promises everyone an unforgettable show. His promise comes true because very soon the delicate balance that had kept Palmira's family together will be shattered, changing the destiny of each and every one. At the centre of all the frenzy is the discovery of a precious treasure that pushes everyone to the maddest gestures in order to obtain it. So the town streets become the crossroads of people looking for the treasure, leaving their homes out of pride, ending up in a home for the elderly or deciding to leave everything behind to join the Circus' show. In the end, all ends well but before everything goes back to normal, our protagonists will have to unmask the scheming individual who put the town into such a frenzy. The film is in Ticinese dialect (Lombard).
