Rosie is a large, mangy, homeless mutt, who wanders around back alleys searching for food. Rosie likes his independent life. Rosie also speaks English, which he does only in select instances when it serves his purpose. One of those people to who he speaks English is Kip, a boy who was trying to run away from home, and who Rosie wants to ensure makes it back home safe and sound. In the process, Kip falls in love with Rosie and wants Rosie to live with him and his family. Rosie sees his stay as being only temporary while he makes sure Kip is safe. All Kip's family sees in Rosie in return is a big, disruptive and unruly mutt of a dog, they who have no intention of letting Rosie stay, all the while while Kip tries to show them that Rosie can speak English. Will there be anything that will change Kip's family's minds about letting Kip keep Rosie, and if so is there anything that will change Rosie's mind about actually staying with Kip permanently?
