The story of the West German Stasi agent Bea Kanter: As a young student in Frankfurt in the 1970s, she was recruited by the Ministry of State Security as a "perspective agent". Over the next 16 years, we see how she is moving her place of study from Frankfurt to politically unsuspicious Cologne. After graduation, she receives a job at the Federal Foreign Office and regularly provides information to the GDR. It wasn't until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 that their camouflage was revealed. The main story-line, however, lies in the protagonist's personal relationships, her inability to develop a satisfactory relationship with men, and in conflicts with her conservative family.
