After ABC renewed Grey's Anatomy for a fourth season, consisting of seventeen episodes. This was a reduced number of episodes, due to the 2007/08 Writers Guild of America strike, which caused production to cease from February to April, leaving the show with no writing staff during that time. Therefore, at the beginning of the fourth season, the show aired its 5th and final in dependant special entitled "Come Rain or Shine". It was created to transition viewers from Grey's Anatomy to (the new spin-off) Private Practice. Narration was provided by the editors of People magazine.
