It is a story about love, loss, grief, family, escape, acceptance and forgiveness, but above all it is about change and growing up. It is a coming-of-age story about Simon. Even though he's a grown-up and the father of four children, the death of his wife and the grief and sudden responsibilities it has brought him, turns him into a child who needs to be taken care of. He literally runs away to a place that's a playground for children, as if he is trying to get back to being a child, free of responsibilities and hiding from reality. However, he is still an adult and the consequences of his actions are evident in the behaviour of his children. He has taken away their chance of saying goodbye to their mother, and something like that isn't easy to forgive. Throughout the film, each child gets to spend time alone with their father, and gets the chance to express their emotions. Whereas we don't expect the children to forgive their father anytime soon, we do see them experience togetherness. They have only each other and will, for better or worse, stick together.
