Con gli occhi del cuore (2001)

Michela had seen the world with her own eyes till the age of six. A sudden illness left her blind and despairing in the darkness. We find Michela again as a grown-up woman. She was studying Philosophy at the university. She had a love story with a professor of hers, a middle-aged man named Sergio. After a delicate operation to cure her blindness had failed, Michela realized that her own world was too far from her lover's. Michela felt he could see her with his eyes, but he was unable to see her from the heart. Therefore, she decided to leave him. Sergio decided to make an extreme, desperate choice: he locked himself in his own house, he covered his eyes and started «feeling» as Michela did.
